Greetings 802 and 803 Parents !
Welcome to 803 ELA with Ms. Villegas! Welcome to 802 ELA with Ms. Villegas and Mr. Bernal!
I am Ms. Villegas and I will be your child’s 8th grade English Language Arts teacher for the 2018- 2019 school year. I am excited about the opportunity to get to know your child and family during this important year in your child’s academic journey. Please take a moment and visit the pages on this website for more detailed information about the class, the current units of study, homework and grading policies and more.
I look forward to working together with you to help your child increase their academic reading and writing skills as they prepare to enter high school. The 8th grade is filled with challenges as students begin to hone the skills they have acquired throughout their elementary and middle school years. We will be reading realistic fiction, fantasy, dystopian, short stories and chapter books, poetry, biographies, and nonfictional articles that will engage the students in interesting and argumentative discussions. They will also be reading non fiction and informative articles that will help them make connections from the text to their lives and to the world. In writing, the students will explore ways to express their thoughts about their reading and develop claims and counterclaims to defend their positions.
This year Mr. Bernal will be joining my 802 class as my co-teacher. We will be working together to better assist and help each student achieve their individual goals.
It is most important that we -teachers and parents- remain in close communication throughout the year. Only by working together will we, as a team, be able to support your children as they work towards accomplishing their goals to be the best readers and writers that they can be.
I hope the website answers most of your questions. If it does not, please send me or Mr. Bernal an email message and we will do our best to answer your inquiries!
Enjoy,
Ms. Villegas
